Gentle Hugs Wins a Kirkus Indie Award!
I’m absolutely delighted to share some very special news — Gentle Hugs, written by Lily Guzman and illustrated by me, has won a Kirkus Indie Award!
This has been a particularly meaningful story for me, as it touches on things that many of us will sadly experience at some point in our lives. Whether it’s your partner, your mum or dad, or someone else very close to you who is struggling with health issues beyond their control, it can affect you in ways you might never have expected or imagined. It’s not easy for us adults, and even more confusing and frightening for children who are going through it.
Having said that, the story Lily wrote is not sad or depressing, but rather full of hope, love and compassion. In my illustrations, I wanted to create a safe, comforting world that would convey these emotions naturally.
Working on Gentle Hugs was a wonderful experience, and I’m incredibly grateful to Lily for entrusting her story to me.
A huge congratulations to you, Lily! ❤️
